The program, supervised by the Sussex County-based Minds Over Matter nonprofit, utilizes a curriculum developed by Mindful Schools, which has trained educators in all 50 states. It's designed to help students reduce stress, improve their attention and focus and manage emotions--essential skills for promoting well being and classroom learning.
MOM's research indicated that all participating teachers found the program valuable and more than 80% of students said the program helped them. MOM hopes to expand "Mindfulness" to other schools contingent on funding, teacher and administrative interest and support from parents.
